GPS Speed

GPS Speed is a GPS speedometer and trip recorder for iPhone. It shows your speed in a large, glanceable number and records trips with distance, duration, moving time, average and maximum speed, for running and walking, cycling, skating, skiing, boats, cars and motorcycles.

Common questions

The app shows no speed. GPS Speed needs location access “While Using the App” with Precise Location on: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › GPS Speed. Indoors the GPS signal is often too weak: use GPS Speed outdoors with a clear view of the sky.

Does it record in the background? Only while you record: from Start to End the app keeps measuring while your iPhone is locked or you use another app, and iOS shows its blue location indicator. When you are not recording, it never uses your location in the background.

My recording stopped. Closing GPS Speed in the App Switcher stops a recording, so don’t close the app while you record. A recording can also stop if iOS closes the app. The next time you open GPS Speed, it shows “Unfinished Recording”: Resume continues recording from now, Save As Is saves the recording as it is, and Discard deletes it.

Where are my recordings? In the History tab. They are stored only on your iPhone and in your own backups; GPS Speed has no account and no network connection, and it doesn’t sync them to your other devices. Deleting the app deletes its recordings from your iPhone; copies in backups made before that stay in those backups until they are replaced or deleted.

Safety

Don’t handle your iPhone while driving, riding or steering a boat — set it up before you go. GPS speed can differ from your vehicle’s speedometer, and on water it shows speed over ground. GPS Speed is not a navigation aid.

GPS Speed collects no data. Read the privacy policy.
